Theological Bursary Fund

The following information is important for the bursary applicant:

General Information | Instructions

Submission Deadline: The complete application and appendices must be submitted by 31 January 2025.

Attached Conditions: The conditions under which the applicant's scholarship is granted are attached. Please read them thoroughly.

Application Form: The applicant must fully complete the application form; incomplete applications will lead to disqualification.

Required Documents

Identity Document: A copy of your identity document. You can submit this in JPG or PDF format.

Confirmation Letter: A confirmation letter or document from the relevant Curatorium (Dutch Reformed Church, NGKA, URCSA) verifying your registration as a student. This should also be in JPG or PDF format.

Theoligical Students

Confirmation Letter: All theological students must submit a letter from the relevant Curatorium confirming that you are enrolled and that all your required documentation is up to date.

First-Year students: If you are in your first year, you are required to report to the Curatorium directly.​

Conditions
  1. Only students who meet the following conditions are eligible for a grant from this scholarship fund:
  • Only students currently studying or intending to study at the Theological Faculty of the University of the Free State are eligible for a grant from this fund.
  • Students who are members of one of the following churches: the Dutch Reformed Church, URCSA or the NGKA , and intend to be full time active in the ministry of said churches, may be eligible for a grant from this fund.

2. Students are required to reapply for a scholarship each year.

3. Scholarships vary depending on the needs of each applicant. Each application is considered on its merits and is granted only with the consultation of the Board of Trustees of the Theological Faculty. Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of six years of study.

4. Payments are advanced half yearly upon receipt of your latest exam results and are subject to your adequate academics and Seminary progress.

5. Disbursements of the granted scholarship will be discontinued if the student misbehaves or does not show adequate progress under standard circumstances

6. The student forfeits the grant for the year following the one in which they do not pass their examination under standard circumstances. The grant can only be awarded for the duration of the degree.

7. Applications close on 31 January 2025.
