Outreach Action

The Helpmekaar Free State encourages students to engage in activities within their congregation or participate in outreach efforts in their communities.

Grants are disbursed in two parts. The first half is paid after the submission of the student’s results and proof of registration for the first semester. To qualify for the second payment in the second semester, the student must:

Attend the Helpmekaar Day.

This event, hosted by a motivational speaker during the first semester, will provide students with insights into the origins of the Helpmekaar Bursary.

Evidence of participation in at least two outreach actions during the first semester is required. The organizer or minister must complete and sign a form to confirm the student’s attendance at these outreach events. Examples of outreach include assistance with a church basaar, soup kitchen, Street Store, golf day, or any other single-day outreach event.

Evidence of ongoing involvement within the congregation is required. Examples of participation include presenting Sunday school, contributing to the technical team, joining the music group, serving on the church council, or engaging in any other current church activities.

Evidence of the first semester subjects passed (50% of all subjects passed)

Submission Deadline: The complete application and appendices must be submitted by 31 January 2025.

Attached Conditions: The conditions under which the applicant's scholarship is granted are attached.
Please read them thoroughly.

Application Form: The applicant must fully complete the application form; incomplete applications will lead to disqualification.

Important: If the student changes their field of study, the scholarship will be discontinued for the participant.

Required Documents

Identity Document: A copy of your identity document. You can submit this in JPG or PDF format.

Form A: Form A must accompany your application. This should also be in JPG or PDF format.

Conditions
  1. Only students who meet the following conditions will be eligible for a grant from this scholarship fund:
  • Students whose parents are residents of the Free State.
  • Students who are members of one of the following churches: Dutch Reformed Church, Ned. Reformed Church or Reformed Church, URCSA or NGKA.
  • Students who study at a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)-accredited institution in the Free State.

2. Students are required to reapply for the scholarship each year.

3. Payments are advanced half yearly upon receipt of your latest exam results and are subject to your adequate academics progress and proof of your involvement in the Helpmekaar Outreach Action.

4. Disbursements of the granted scholarship will be discontinued if the student misbehaves or does not show adequate progress under standard circumstances.

5. If the student changes their field of study, the scholarship will be discontinued.

6. The Helpmekaar bursary fund application is available only to students pursuing their first qualification.

7. Applications close on 31 January 2025.
